Summer Art Camps for Children

Each summer the Museum hosts extraordinary art camps offering unique opportunities to encounter art for children ages 6 to 13. In addition to one of a kind art experiences, children learn about the museum, our exceptional exhibits and enjoy the outside greenspace surrounding the museum. These camps are extremely popular and fill up fast so register early!

ARTrek Camp: Create, Construct & Connect with Margie Zirker & Alexa Stanger Ages 6 - 13
June 13 – 16, Mon – Thurs, 10 am – 2 pm
This four-day camp introduces students to traditional and modern artists from diverse cultures and traditions. In June, we will explore artwork from Mexico, Spain and Japan. Our adventure will lead us to explore traditional Mexican mask-making and animal sculpture. Create expressive self-portraits inspired by artist Frida Kahlo and explore contemporary painting styles inspired by the Spanish artist Antoni Tapies and Japanese artist Atsuko Tanaka.
$75 member, $90 non-member

ARTrek Camp: Made in America with Margie Zirker & Alexa Stanger Ages 6 – 13
July 11 – 14, Mon – Thurs, 10 am – 2 pm
This four-day camp introduces students to the work of a variety of exciting American artists. Our adventures will lead us to construct 3-D wood sculpture, experiment with explosive color mixtures, explore mixed media collage with unusual paper and found materials, and create lively patterned paintings inspired by artists Eli Bornstein, Dorothy Culpepper, Christopher French, and Edith Kuhnle.
$75 member, $90 non-member

ARTrek Camp: Make your Mark with Margie Zirker & Alexa Stanger Ages 6 – 13
August 8 – 11, Mon – Thurs, 10 am – 2 pm
Knock your socks off contemporary art is on tap for this art camp! French artist Jean-Claude Gaugy will inspire us to create lively gestural drawings and fabulous paintings with bright colors. We will gain inspiration from the artwork of Italian artist Gianfranco Maletti to create multilayer collage with found paper. Then we will ignite the imagination as we explore the experimental painting techniques of spraying, scraping and scribing to create stunning works of contemporary art.
