IDAHO PAINTS IDAHO

The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho proudly hosts the seventh biennial Idaho Paints Idaho exhibit August 5 - October 29, 2011. This exhibit celebrates the interpretive vision of Idaho artists across our magnificent state. The top 50 pieces of art have been selected by this year's juror, Scott Christensen. Award categories are best of show and the best pieces in landscape, figurative, wildlife/animal and abstract/interpretive offering a wide array of artist interpretations.

Eligibility
Idaho Paints Idaho is open to residents of Idaho who are 18 years or older. All entries must be original, entirely the work of the entrant, and created without the supervision of an art instructor. The work may not have been previously exhibited at TAM and must have been completed in the last two years.

Conditions
All interpretations are considered. Any medium including oil, pencil, watercolor, encaustic, acrylic, egg-tempera, sculpture, assemblage, collage, etc. is acceptable.

2011 Juror
Born in 1962, juror Scott Christensen grew up in Lander, Wyoming where he learned to appreciate nature’s beauty at an early age. While attending Chadron State College in Nebraska on a football scholarship, he sustained a spinal injury that left him unable to compete and would lead him to a career in art. He eventually earned a degree in art education, but chose to paint instead of teach. Although largely considered to be a self-taught artist, Christensen has sought tutelage from Bob Barlow, Clyde Aspevig, and William Reese. During a trip to Sweden in 1994, Christensen was inspired by the work of Impressionist Anders Zorn to adopt a palette limited to primaries, plus white. He has also been greatly influenced by such masters as Isaac Levitan, Alphonse Mucha, and Joaquin Sorolla. Christensen typically begins his paintings with plein air studies that are then completed in the studio. After three decades at the easel, his work is recognized and sought by collectors around the globe. Christensen currently has a home and studio in Victor, Idaho where he regularly leads workshops.
