FIGURE STUDY SESSIONS
February 27, March 12 and 26, Mondays, 5 – 8 pm
Join us for open studio drawing and painting sessions with a live model twice a month, open exclusively to Museum Artists. For more information please contact the Art Museum.

BEGINNING DRAWING with Tim Goodworth
February 11 - March 3, Saturdays, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
This introductory course will promote a technical command of drawing materials, concepts and techniques. Work with pencil, charcoal and other dry media to create images that are both creative and accurate. Students will be encouraged to develop their own visual vocabulary and to express themselves in their own unique style through a study of line, shape, value and design.
$80 member, $100 non-member

BEGINNING PAINTING with Tim Goodworth
February 11 - March 3, Saturdays, 1:00 – 4:00 pm
This course is an introduction to oil or acrylic painting that emphasizes color mixing, painting techniques, and composition for students with little or no experience. Students will gain new insights into how color, shape, light and dark can work together to create the illusion of three-dimensional form on a two-dimensional surface, with an emphasis on creative growth and self expression.
$100 member, $120 non-member

CERAMICS FOR ADULTS with David Jones
March 7 - April 11, Wednesdays, 5:30-7:30 pm
Join artist David Jones in this four-week class and experience the joy of working with clay. Learn the basic approaches to hand-building forms with clay and create functional pottery as well as expressive sculptural works. Class fees include all supplies and materials.

BOOK ARTS with Lisa Jones
The following workshops are offered “a-la-carte.” Sign up for all six or select the ones that you find most appealing. Workshop supplies are available in the museum store.

I. SIMPLE BOOKS
May 5, Saturday, 9 - 1 pm
Learn the basics of tearing and folding paper and learn how to sew several pamphlet stitches to create simple structures that can be made using a variety of materials.
$35 member, $40 non-member

II. JAPANESE STAB BINDING
May 12, Saturday, 9 - 1 pm
Create four soft cover books using traditional Japanese stab binding techniques.
$35 member, $40 non-member

III. BOOKS THAT MOVE
May 19, Saturday, 9 - 1 pm
Learn to make several books including the accordion and lotus flower book with folded paper to create structures that move in fun and unexpected ways.
$35 member, $40 non-member

IV. COPTIC BOOK
May 26, Saturday, 9 - 1 pm
Learn to create this beautiful book with an exposed spine binding, a style of book that reveals all of the stitching that holds the book together. Ideal for artists, this book lays flat when it is open.
$35 member, $40 non-member

V. HARD CASE SKETCHBOOK
June 2 & 9, Saturdays, 9 -1 pm
Make a flat spine hard case book with hand sewn headbands. The first week will be spent folding and sewing the endpapers and text and preparing for gluing. The second week will be spent sewing headbands and making the book cover.
$65 member, $75 non-member

BATIK WORKSHOP with Noreen Shanafelt
June 16, Saturday, 10 - 4 pm
The workshop will explore the art of Indonesian Batik both in the traditional style and also some modern and quick methods developed by the artist herself. Additional experimental procedures will be introduced. All material will be supplied by the instructor.

Gain a firm grasp on the basic power tools of color, value, composition, and perspective to help you more freely present your personal style and vision. Allen's down-to-earth studies promote confidence and understanding of not only the tools every artist wants at their fingertips, but also a real awareness of personal strengths, weaknesses, preferences, emerging style, and focus on personal artistic goals. All media and levels of experience are welcome.

POCKET SKETCHING WORKSHOP with Kath Macaulay
August 1 - 4, Wednesday - Saturday, 9 - 4 pm
Learn the secrets of pocket sketching with renowned artist Kath Macaulay. Using a very small format (4”x 6”) and very inexpensive materials, create watercolor sketches of excellent quality in any location in about 25 minutes. This technique is ideal for journaling and field sketches. No previous experience is needed. Advanced artists will gain a new, quick, expressive field technique.
