GIANT PRINTED CITY SKYLINE MURAL

Artist Connection: Printmaking, Community Art
Grades: K–5
Time Required: 1–2 class periods
Project Type: Collaborative
Materials
- Large roll paper
- Tempera paint
- Foam trays
- Ink brayer
Instructions
- Have each student draw a simple city skyline. (Display examples of various city skylines for inspiration)
- Lay their drawing over a foam tray (may have to trim off edges so it lays flat)
- Trace over the drawing to create impressions in the foam tray
- Cut out the buildings (windows and other details will be depressed from drawing over it)
- Divide the paper in half, widthwise and have students paint the upper half in sunset shades and the lower half in cool, watery shades
- One at a time, have students ink their foam buildings, carefully line them up at the “water’s edge” and print them into the skyline
Display Tip
Install the mural at child height so students can locate their contributions.
