PAINTED CARDBOARD RELIEF PANELS

PAINTED CARDBOARD RELIEF PANELS.png

Artist Connection: Louise Nevelson

Grades: 2–8

Time Required: 2 class periods

Project Type: Individual

Materials

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Tempera paint

Avoid Identical Artwork
Require students to create completely abstract compositions using different shapes, textures, and arrangements before painting. In this case, a few colors, with pieces grouped by color, may be more impactful than a wide variety of colors, for the final display.

Instructions

  1. Cut a variety of cardboard shapes.
  2. Arrange pieces into an abstract composition.
  3. Glue securely.
  4. Paint the entire piece one color.
  5. Focus on texture and shadow rather than color.

Display Tip
Display monochromatic works grouped by color family for a professional gallery appearance. Could also display in a color gradient. Attach all pieces to one or two, large pieces of black posterboard for a collaborative, class artwork.
