Woven Pet Portraits

Time Required: 2–3 class periods
Project Type: Individual
Materials:
- Animal photos
- Yarn
- Cardboard (to create looms)
- Popsicle stick “shuttles”
- Cardstock
- Hole punch
Avoid Identical Artwork:
Use different animal images and yarn color combinations. Could also have parents email in photos of pets to print in black and white.
Instructions:
- Create cardboard looms
- Create warp strings.
- Weave yarn.
- Add fringe.
- Make colored paper “bed” and white paper “pillow.” Paste cut out animal photo on.
- Glue woven “blanket” in place
- Mount on black cardstock.
Display Tip:
Looks excellent displayed in rows.
